Gibraltar v1.0, for FS5.1 CD, (c) by Colin Beveridge, September 1995
====================================================================
Gibraltar, famous for the Rock, which towers to 1400 feet and houses a
colony of apes, is a British Crown Colony located off the Spanish mainland
on the north side of the Strait of Gibraltar. It is linked to the Spanish
mainland by a causeway, which houses the airport. The west side of the Rock
has a large seaport; the east and south faces are steeper and less
populated. It was the setting for some of the 007 film "Living Daylights."
Gibraltar's airport is fairly unique, since the runway is built on the
causeway which links the Rock to Spain, and partly extends into the sea.
Also, because it takes up the width of the causeway, it has a busy road
crossing it. Barrier gates must be put down when an aircraft wants to land.
There is also a heliport.
The main airline is GB Airways, a British Airways franchisee, using B737-400
aircraft flying to London Gatwick/Heathrow T1 3 times daily, Casablanca daily,
and Agadir, Marrakech, Tangier, and Manchester weekly. British and other NATO
military aircraft also use the airport.
====================================================================
INSTALLATION: move *.bgl to your FLTSIM5\SCENERY directory.
-------------
Or you can use the FS5.1 scenery manager to store it in a subdirectory
(...\GIB\SCENERY\).
move *.stn to FLTSIM5\SCENERY\PILOTS directory.
====================================================================
The file GIB.BGL adds Gibraltar to the default FS5.1 Africa-region CD-ROM
booster coastline. If you don't mind it being an island, then you can use it
without the CD. GIBAPP.STN is a situation file which sets you up on approach
to rwy9 in the standard LearJet.
I've included an accurate coastline for Gibraltar, some buildings, a crude
synthetic Rock, and the 'North Front' airport/heliport with some dynamic
scenery (such as trucks driving on the road across the runway) and navaids
with some ATIS & ATC.
GBR-VOR.BGL adds the Gibraltar (GBR, 113.60) VOR on the peak of the Rock.
However, to fit in with the default coastline, Gibraltar is some 8 nm west
of where it ought to be. Do NOT install this file IF you have this VOR in
another scenery file AND need it to be in the right place (eg for enroute
navigation).
Unfortunately, I had trouble getting accurate info on other navaids, so the
frequencies and IDs used are temporary until I find out what they should
really be, then I'll correct my scenery file, and provide some IAP files.
